In His Presence
What reminds you of the presence of God in your life? Are there things or places that help you feel His majesty, power, and grace? What helps tune your heart with His? For me, it’s most often nature and music that return my low and wandering self to Him. Worship songs can lift my chin and remind me that I am worth something during times that I may be feeling quite the opposite . Somehow God’s truths, set to rhythm and given a pulse, act like salve, able to tend wounds I may have never had the courage to speak aloud. It’s able to penetrate my heart like not much else can.
The everyday miracles and glorious beauty of nature point me to Him as well. While I greatly appreciate, and long to experience, His most awe inspiring works, such as those that are being preserved by our national parks, I can see Him in the flat, scarred suburban Midwest too. Oh yes, my little yard is not void of His handiwork, and either is yours. There is a surviving wildness here. Creation, all of it, reveals to us His heart if we take the time to look, listen, and breathe it in. His fingerprint is evident on so many of our surroundings. The slightest change in temperature will turn a simple drop of water into a beautiful, 6 pointed crystal, whose design will never be exactly duplicated, and likely remain a beauty unknown to our eye. A honeybee creates a uniquely choreographed dance that will somehow be interpreted by his teammates and lead them to the best flowers in the neighborhood. The delicate wings of a monarch will carry it across 3000 miles to a warm winter refuge. No theory based on a single cell organism can hold a candle to what my heart tells me is true. His power, attention to every tiny detail, and creativity are on display for all who will take the time to notice. He tells a story in this web of creation too, a story of harmony, purpose and renewal. In nature, nothing goes to waste. Some things may be more visible than others, and get more attention than others, but they all have a purpose. There is an ongoing transition of existence, from life to death, a death that is not final, but by design, brings forth once again the opportunity for new life. And there my mind is pointed again, right back to Jesus, and His death, allowing new life to be born in us.
Below is one of my favorite songs sung by an absolute darling. I haven't found her on i-tunes or I'd buy it. Sarah Noelle is her name. I typically like the toned down version of worship music. Pure and simple, no fluff or show needed. Enjoy...
